Weekend Shift Group Home Sat-Sun 8 hour shifts; 9a-5p, 5p-1a & 1a-9a (NO OFFSITE LUNCH available), Start pay $10 hr (every other weekend)

Also may be able to make extra hours as floaters during 1st, 2nd & 3rd shifts.

Job Description

Job duties are provided in the Supervised Group Living facilities and in other community locations as indicated.

The paraprofessional educates and supervise IDD adults at supervised group living residences with on-site supervision.

Duties

Paraprofessional help admit and discharge I/DD consumers, maintain close contact with them, and monitor vital signs such as heart rate and blood pressure. They observe client behaviors, record their conditions and lead them in therapeutic and recreational activities. These workers might consult with doctors and other mental health professionals, often as part of a team that includes social workers and therapists. If patients become physically violent, paraprofessional may restrain them. They also help with daily living, such as eating, dressing and bathing.

Accountability: The Paraprofessional reports to the Program Director/QP. The Program Director/QP provides supervision and receives reports and feedback from goal implementation. Supervision of a paraprofessional by a Program Director/QP and supervision must be provided according to supervision requirements in 10A NCAC 27G.0204 and according to licensure or certification requirements of the appropriate discipline.

Qualifications

Staff must meet the requirements for paraprofessionals in 10A NCAC 27G.0200.

The Paraprofessional shall demonstrate core skills competence in the following areas:

  • Able to implement written outcomes in the treatment habilitation plan.
  • Possess observation skills and can communicate them effectively through verbal and written statements.

  • Must be punctual to work.
  • Staff must complete client specific competencies to be met as identified by the participant’s person-centered team and documented in the Person-Centered Plan/Plan of Care.
  • Have a Criminal Record check with acceptable results.
  • Have a Healthcare registry check completed with acceptable results.
  • If providing transportation, have a North Carolina or other state’s valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and an acceptable level of automobile liability insurance.
  • Satisfactory reference and background investigation checks
  • Completion of tuberculin screening within 30 days of hire date.
  • Attendance at all mandatory staff development & training

Agency staff that work with clients

  • Are at least 18 years old
  • If providing transportation, have a valid North Carolina driver’s license or other valid driver’s license, a safe driving record and an acceptable level of automobile liability insurance
  • Criminal background check present no health and safety risk to beneficiary
  • Not listed in the North Carolina Health Care Abuse Registry
  • Qualified in CPR and First Aid
  • Have Blood Borne pathogen training on or before the first day of employment
  • Have Medication Management training on or before the first day of employment or before administering medication to clients.
  • DMH/DD/SAS Core Competencies and required refresher training
  • Qualified in the customized needs of the clients as described in the ISP.
  • High school diploma or high school equivalency (GED)
  • Paraprofessionals providing this service must be supervised by a qualified professional. Supervision must be provided according to supervision requirements specified in 10A NCAC 27G.0204 (b) (c) (f) and according to licensure or certification requirements of the appropriate discipline.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Monitor, educate and assist residents in performance of activities of daily living in accordance with goals and problem area identified on individualized treatment plan
  • Participate in continuing education activities, remaining knowledgeable in areas related to the focus of the residential program
  • Attend meetings as appropriate and meet regularly with supervisor and peers to exchange pertinent information and to receive supervision
  • Maintain client and program records in accordance with applicable standards and regulations
  • Interact appropriately with all visitors, family members, and care providers of residents
  • Carry out responsibilities pertaining to the efficient and therapeutic operation of the facility, including all events, activities and outings, utilizing safety management, emergency procedures and non-violent crisis intervention
  • Perform cleaning duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Interact with clients in a confidential, therapeutic, and responsible manner maintaining a high level of ethical conduct
  • Manage crisis and emergency situations involving residents
  • Transport residents to and from appointment, groups and other activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
