Nurse Case Manager - Great Plains

The Nurse Case Manager is aligned regionally and is responsible for providing education about Akcea products and services and ensuring patient access to treatment. The Nurse Case Manager builds relationships with internal and external customers to ensure a successful transition onto treatment and coordination of care to ensure patient compliance with therapy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct educational training to patients about Akcea’s products and services
  • Communicate reimbursement updates and findings to appropriate internal and external customers
  • Engage with patients, Health Care Providers, and Specialty Pharmacies (SPs) to ensure all needs are met and appropriate support is being individualized
  • Provide patient-focused education to promote behavioral change for the empowerment of patients to improve treatment compliance
  • Maintain a current, proficient understanding of commercial insurers, Medicaid, and Medicare Part D Benefit and Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) benefits
  • Develop relationships and manage multiple and complex challenges that patients and caregivers are facing
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry laws and Akcea policies
  • Aligned regional travel will be required for patient education, to support patient programs, and assist HCP with reimbursement
  • Collaborate to troubleshoot and resolve reimbursement-related issues with SP, Market Access, and insurance companies
  • Communicate and partner directly with internal cross-functional departments including Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Patient Advocacy in order to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects related to access barriers
  • Ensure that all reimbursement training programs are consistent with company regulatory and compliance guidelines
  • Develop and implement pertinent funding work processes and policies
  • Participate in and complete required disease, product, Adverse Event, and Pharmacovigilance training

QUALIFICATIONS

  • RN with current license required
  • Resides in the NY/NJ area
  • 3-5+ years of case management and reimbursement experience
  • 2+ plus years of experience in pharmaceutical/ biotech industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare, Marketing or Life Sciences, a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of third-party payers (Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial) and case management process (prior authorization and appeals) required
  • Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding, ASC, and physician reimbursement. Medical billing and/or coding certification a plus.
  • Customer support, provider, or payer relations experience with proven ability to establish strong working relationships with customers
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal)
  • Clinical, technical and scientific knowledge and aptitude in complex disease states
  • Experience working with complex REMS programs and Adverse Event reporting
  • Effective time management and workload management
  • Ability to work in close collaboration with multiple departments including training, market access, patient advocacy and marketing in order to align on objectives and provide consistent feedback and communication
  • Previous experience with case management tasks and superior presentation skills
  • Previous sales experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry is preferred
  • Must be an excellent communicator and problem-solver and be able to explain complex reimbursement scenarios to patients and healthcare professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, follow, and execute plans in an independent environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships both internally & externally
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable to changing work environments and responsibilities
  • Must be able to thrive in team environment and willing to contribute at all levels with flexibility and a positive attitude
  • Fully competent in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as needed
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus
  • Travel up to 80%
