System Engineer – Independent Research & Development (IR&D) (Level 2/3/4)

Job Summary:

Responsible for various system engineer responsibilities associated with independent research &

development (IR&D) for Ascension Engineering Group. A successful candidate contributes to developing

next-generation technology to meet the needs of a diverse set of customers. The candidate will work on

a dedicated team developing new products, redesigning existing products, and performing research and

testing on product concepts. The candidate’s specific role on the team will consist of preforming design,

development, and testing activities across the system development lifecycle; requirements development

and analysis; integration, test and validation; fielding support; and system documentation and

specifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain an interim U.S. Government SECRET security clearance (requires U.S.
Citizenship)
  • Knowledge of the systems engineering development lifecycle and change management process
  • Experience with Agile technologies and tools
  • Experience in systems engineering functions including operations concept development, system

and product design, requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition

and control

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and communicate with all levels of management

and individual contributors on the program team

  • Excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Proficiency with MS Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current U.S. Government SECRET security clearance (required U.S. Citizenship)
  • Systems Engineering experience on a large government software development contract
  • Ex
  • Experience with Ground equipment/RF equipment
  • Experience in integration, and/or verification and validation
  • Experience in Systems Engineering process development and deployment
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using DOORS, Enterprise Architect

and JIRA or similar tools

  • Experience working in an Agile or DevOps development environment, being part of a highly

integrated team working closely with Software, Integration and Verification teams

Educational Requirements:

  • Engineer Level 2: Bachelor's degree and three or more years relevant experience, Master's

degree and one or more years relevant experience

  • Engineer Level 3: Bachelor's degree and seven or more years relevant experience, Master's

degree and four or more years relevant experience

  • Engineer Level 4: Bachelor's degree and 12 or more years of experience, Master's with nine or

more years of experience

(Degrees must be from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or

physics)

In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this position is $78,000

to $132,000. Ascension Engineering Group considers factors such as work experience, education, key
skills, and position role when extending an offer.

Internal Ascension Engineering Group employees will be limited to one year in IRAD projects.
