Our national, specialist and forensic services include:

  • Medium secure services on the St Bernard’s Hospital site in Ealing
  • Services for people with complex and severe personality disorder at the Cassel Hospital in Richmond
  • High secure services at Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire

We are looking for an enthusiastic medicines management pharmacy technician to join a friendly, progressive clinical team, serving our community at West London NHS Trust. The trust provides services across a large geographical area and includes a wide range of mental health and community health services. Our 800 in-patient beds provide services from open wards through to high security forensic services and intermediate care beds. We provide a secondary, tertiary and national service.

We are a leading provider of HCATT services to the boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow. This post will be largely based at Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow teams but a dispensary commitment to ensure ACT skills are not lost is required at the Ealing site.

Medicines Management and Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician

Working throughout the boroughs of Hounslow and Hammersmith and Fulham, the post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise pharmaceutical care for adult service users who are referred to and discharged from our wards and clinics.

They will provide a full medicines management and optimisation technician service to allocated inpatient wards, offering highly specialist technician services to medical staff, nurses and patients on all aspects of the safe & effective use of medicines as well as facilitating medicines reconciliation and discharge planning. They will also support the delivery of education, training and service improvement using quality improvement methodology. There will be opportunity to be involved in clinical trials, audit and research projects.

The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual team player with good communication skills and a keen interest in mental health. The applicant should be able to work well both in a team and autonomously.

The applicant should be an Accredited Pharmacy Checking Technician (or equivalent), a member of the General Pharmacy Technician Council, have a Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician Qualification (or working towards it). Previous experience of working in and/or interest in mental health would be desirable.
